Watching movies and shows isn’t always about living another life through the character and immersing in them. What makes them so special is that they’re a universe apart, and we meet them midway, escaping our lives and base reality and simply watching a story from a third-person perspective. Our experiences and emotions unconsciously relate or empathise, whilst remaining wholly unaware of the trance the environment embraces us with, as if in that moment it is just us and the screen; a joy unknown to none.
It's amazing how the characters can become your best friends and your worst enemies, and without a doubt fantasy starts fighting reality as everyone's opinions collide on every trope and every action. A character created in someone's mind makes a place in everyone else's heart: that's the magic of storytelling.
Like a comma gives new life to a phrase, a pause to take a breath, that is what movies do for me; a dramatic break from the silence and chaos within. The cinema is that bridge, that safe space where two worlds collide. It is where the fine line between imagination and reality is blurred, that’s the grey area the cinema and I call home.
For me, watching movies and shows is as good as meditation, to just center yourself and take a breath. That’s why I feel you NEED movies and shows, to take you away from the noise and bring you back to yourself.
